Here are some facts about me.

Name: Amanda Nordstrom

Age: 29

Birthday: February 24, 1978

Major: Education

Classification in College: Senior

Professional Goals: To be honest. my goals have changed. I now have two children. My husband and I have decided that this will be my last semester in college. My job will be sole to take care of my family. I like to call myself a domestic Engineer.

Why Education: Originally I was a music performance major. I love music and it is a big part in my life. Later, I realised that I really needed a degree in something that would give me a job. Thus, I became a Music Education major.

When I had my first child, my daughter, I realised that I could not be in UNT's Music Education program. Had I been single without any children it wouldn't have been a problem. However, having to take eight classes just to get twelve credits as well as trying to find time to do homework, practise, participate in concerts as well as go to all the concerts that were required took too much time away from my husband as it wasand would take far too much time away from my children. It was then I decided to become an Education major.

I have always loved working with children. I enjoy doing the nursery at church. I never got as much of a chance to babysit as I would have liked, but I did enjoy it. Education, particularly Early Childhood Education, seemed a good place for me to be.

However, to be honest, my ultimate goal was to simply get my degree and then become a stay at home mom. I only expected to work until we have children. Since I had to leave in 1999 for four years before I could return to school, I was unable to finish my degree before they started coming. Perhaps I will finish when they are all off at college.

Why Stay At Home: I went to day care for several years before we moved next door to my grandmother and she started taking care of me. Before I had children, I always thought day care would be a good option. Since having children, however, I realise I don't want to have to put them in day care, even to finish my degree. I want to be able to stay at home, teach them myself. I plan on homeschooling my children and hopefully preparing them for the real world. I want to be there for my children. I don't want them to be latchkey kids, I don't want them to not have someone they can go too. I think it's important for me to be here, to bring them up instead of pushing them on someone else.

Interesting Facts: Education has taught me that you have to be organised if you want to be successful. It als also taught me that children will soak up things, even if they don't seem like they are paying attention. I've also discovered that teachers, particularly math and science teachers, are greatly coveted. My sister in law is a Math teacher and is making a decent wage because they are so needed.

Hobbies: I have several hobbies and several more hobbies that I would like to pick up. My current hobbies are reading, writing, singing, photography, and quilting. I would like to get into cross stitch, knitting, dying my own fabrics, and making beaded flowers.
